Azikoro Comprehensive Health Centre Gets Facelift

Paramount Ruler lauds gesture.

The humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, LDS Charities, recently upgraded the Azikoro Comprehensive Health Centre in Azikoro-Epie town, a suburb of Yenogoa in Yenogoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.

The handover ceremony of the renovated health centre, accompanied with medical equipment and supplies, crowned two months of voluntary work by the people of Azikoro community and members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Yenogoa Nigeria Stake. Funding was available through LDS Charities. 

The community Health Centre is of utmost importance to Bayelsa State, as it directly serves communities from three Local Government Areas and is also an institution employed by State owned Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, NDUTH, in the training of Medical Students on Community Medicine.

The renovation of the Health Centre included re-roofing, sanitary conveniences, tiling, replacement of windows, furniture and painting. Donated equipment included wheelchairs, Auto-care machines, surgical theatre lamps, electronics, waiting room furniture, refrigerators, Sphygnomamiters, a resuscitation table, beds & mattresses.

 

The Paramount Ruler of Azikoro-Epie town, HRH Amadoko Clever, described the renovation work and supply of medical equipment, as “unprecedented in the area”. The monarch made the remarks during the hand over ceremony. He commended the Church for showing genuine love and concern to the people of Azikoro community. The Ruler also promised to proclaim the good works members of the LDS church have been doing in the community to his people.

Dr. Akekere Johah, President of the Yenagoa-Nigeria Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stated that the medical intervention by the Church is premised on the need to provide for the spiritual and temporal needs to the people and, in this case, to assist in the training of young medical students.

In his remarks, Dr. Wisdom Sawyer, a part time consultant of the Department of Community Medicine; Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, NDUTH, noted that intervention was timely, and commended the LDS Church for their corporate social responsibility to their host community.

Hon. Boldiseye Ndiamowepol,who represented the Council Chairman at the occasion, expressed the willingness of the Local Government, to partner with the Church for further development in his community.

The renovation and supply of equipment in Azikoro community is one of many humanitarian projects carried out by LDS Charities in different communities in Nigeria.
