In support of the efforts aimed at curtailing the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 29, 2020 donated personal protective equipment and other basic necessities to the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Health.

The donated items include N95 masks, disposable facemasks, surgical gowns, protective eye shields, disposable hand gloves, hand sanitizers, antiseptic liquid soaps, disposable shoe covers, veronica buckets and tissue papers.
Elder Christian Chigbundu, an Area Seventy in the Africa West Area, led other Church representatives to make the donations on behalf of the Church. While making the presentations, he thanked the Lagos State government for the measures put in place to safeguard the lives of her citizens and expressed gratitude to the various healthcare personnel for their tireless work during this trying period. He stated that the Church was happy to partner with the government in the fight to protect the citizens of Nigeria against this deadly disease.
Receiving the items on behalf of the government, Olajide Razack, COVID-19 Warehouse Manager, representing the Commissioner for Health and the Deputy Chief of Staff to the State Government, thanked the Church for making the donations. ‘’We are happy with what we have received from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints today. We kindly call on other religious institutions and corporate organizations in the state to follow the example of the Church and contribute their quota to the relief efforts’’. He stated that Lagos being the epicenter of COVID-19 in Nigeria, it needed all the help it could get. Earlier on, Dr. Dayo Lajide, Director, Grant Management Office, Ministry of Health, coordinators of all COVID-19 response donations in the state, stated: ‘’Thank you for your kind support to the Lagos State Government COVID-19 response. This is much appreciated.’’
Responding to newsmen who wanted to know what the Church was doing for the most vulnerable members of the state, Charles Adebayo, Regional Welfare and Self-Reliance Manager for the Church in Nigeria stated that the Church, working with government agencies and Community Development Associations will within the week, provide food relief packages to this segment of the society.
