Community Efforts Renovate Offin Health Centre

Latter-day Saints from the Igbogbo Branch of the Ikeja, Nigeria Stake (a group of congregations) joined community volunteers in the last lap of renovations prior to the presentation of new medical equipment to Offin Community Health Centre. The event was sponsored by LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Under the direction of LDS Charities, renovation of the health facility began in March, 2017. Members of the Church and other volunteers from Offin painted the building, repaired the septic tank, replaced windows and water closets, and installed mosquito nets.

On April 1, 55 members of Igbogbo branch and 18 community members cleaned the building and grounds. Volunteers sang and danced together while performing their civic responsibilities. Collectively, 798 man hours were spent on the service project.

During the presentation of the medical equipment, Chief Monsuru Oluwaseyi Alim said he was thrilled with the achievement, “I lack words to express how I feel today," he said. "I have never seen any church so magnanimous in doing voluntary work.”

The traditional leader continued, “I can hardly recognize the Centre any more.  It is hard to imagine this has happened in my life time. You have opened my eyes to what we can do to help ourselves. We will move forward and even improve upon what LDS Charities has done. Thank you. We are overwhelmed.”

Brother Effiong Okon, member of the Igbogbo branch, was amazed at the great work accomplished. “I have never seen members and neighbours so united and excited about a project," hesaid. "Today we learned we can do incredible things when we are united.”

Chief Nursing Officer Okemusi, said “It really baffles me what the Church has done. I never knew a single organization could do as much as you have done. I believe God has used you to improve this facility. I am grateful for the giant strike your Church has taken in the provision of the equipment. It will surely help us in delivering quality services to our patients”

Ikeja Nigeria Stake President, Adekunle Adegbenro thanked the Igbogbo branch members and volunteers from Offin for their efforts and diligence. He asked hospital management to ensure those who are less privileged are served and to make good use of the equipment donated by LDS Charities for the community.
