LDS Charities Pays Courtesy Visit to Enugu State Government House.

Clean Water for Rural Dwellers

Succor is on the way to rural dwellers in Enugu State as LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has received a go ahead nod from the Executive Governor H. E. Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to provide clean water to 10 communities in the state. The Governor gave the approval during a courtesy call to the Government House by a team from the church.

During the visit, Elder and Sister Reynolds, LDS Charities’ Water Technical Specialists, and Chidiebere Ibeakuzie, Area Welfare Specialist for the Church, presented LDS Charities' intervention model in communities to the Govenor. Elder Reynold explained that the LDS Charities water project model will involve the beneficiaries in the management and maintenance of the boreholes. Community leaders or people chosen by them will be trained on maintaining the water project after completion. This will help the beneficiaries take ownership of the projects.

Impressed with the model, Governor Ugwuanyi donated the sum of N5,000,000.00 representing N500,000.00 each to the 10 host communities as their counterpart funding for the water projects. He promised to adopt the model going forward in the state. “I have learned a lot from your proposed model and I know it will go a long way in alleviating the water shortage problems we are experiencing in the rural areas. God will bless your organisation for this singular relief done to the less privileged in our state”, he stated.

The Deputy Governor Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo prayed God to continue to use the church to bless humanity. “This is the gospel in action”,she concluded.

Over the years, LDS Charities had completed many projects in Enugu State. These interventions include the provision of clean water, rehabilitation and equiping of health facilities, public schools, empowerment of rural families through the Church funded agriculture programmes.
