Latter-day Saint Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Friday, 19th February, 2021 donated 210,000 units of disposable face masks and 28,000 units of isolation gowns to the National Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria to aid the hospital in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The items were part of a larger consignment of 720,000 units of disposable face masks and 30,000 isolation gowns brought into the country in partnership with a non- governmental organization, Project Hope.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the National Hospital and the Ministry of Health, Dr. Tayo Haastrup, Director of Communication, National Hospital, Abuja, thanked the Church for the donation. He stated: “Since the outbreak of the Corona virus disease, we have received assistance from several organizations. This is the largest donation we have received from a single organization. We assure you that these items will be judiciously used and extended to other hospitals in need.’’
Obinna U. Alaribe, President of the Abuja Nigeria Lugbe Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made the donations on behalf of the Church. He was accompanied by Victor C. Eze, President of the Abuja Nigeria Wuse Stake, Charles Adebayo, Regional Welfare and Self-Reliance Services Manager for the Church in Nigeria and Ikpe Nkanang, Lagos Coordinating Council Communication Director. President Alaribe stated that the donation by the Church was to aid the National Hospital in containing the spread of Covid-19 in Nigeria and to protect the healthcare givers.
The National Hospital has been at the forefront of the fight against the Covid -19 pandemic in Nigeria with Abuja, the Federal Capital, the epicenter of the pandemic in the North and Central parts of the country.
