Young Single Adult Summit Held in Ibadan

Young adults to focus on opportunities amidst challenges

About 600 Young Single Adults of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, between the ages of 18 and 30, gathered at the Command Secondary School to participate in a two-day summit from August 10-11,2018. The summit featured young adults from across 9 stakes or dioceses in Ibadan, Lagos, Ile-Ife, Abeokuta and the Ondo and Akure Districts.

"I am excited to be here, " said 24-year-old Janet Blessing Fadeigba. "I have a zeal to meet a lot of wonderful people and hear from the church leaders that will be present. It's going to be an edifying experience, one I will never forget"

The theme for the summit is "Lead Me into Life Eternal" and the summit opened with a resonant singing of the same-titled hymn.

Elder Adeyinka Ojediran of the Seventy encouraged the young adults to look for opportunities amidst the many challenges that surround them. He persuaded them to be hardworking and to practice integrity in all their doings emphasizing that there is no shortcut to success. He ultimately invited them to follow the examples of Jesus Christ and keep his commandments; “Success is assured”, he reminded the young adults..

Elder Edward Dube, second counselor in the Africa West Area Presidency concluded the summit with a question and answer session. Young adults asked questions on a wide variety of subjects and those questions were addressed from the scriptures and through experiences shared by Elder Dube and other church leaders that were present. Elder Dube taught the young adults that the Lord speaks to all through the scriptures and that they can always turn to them for answers.

Expressing how she felt in the summit, 22-year-old Rebecca Ogbor said: "I actually felt happy. I had fun, met with old friends, made new friends and was lifted spiritually. I enjoyed every bit of it."

The summit was organized to provide an opportunity for young adults to strengthen faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, meet and interact with new people and receive help in achieving vital goals and making decisions about marriage, education, career and other milestones in their lives.
